We spoke with Elaine of Elaine Santos Design about her design point of view; she has an eye for mixing vintage and contemporary and brings in contrast while maintaining an air of modern sensibility. “I like to create unique modern spaces that are characterized with warmth and ease.”
Elaine brought her forward-thinking eye to create this eye-catching and lovely Brownstone design. She came in after Mowery Marsh Architects had done extensive work and followed their architectural lead with her design “to create spaces that were reflective of their unfussy approach to design.” She made the space functional with touches like high performance fabrics so spills are not an issue. They collaborated with Silver Maple Construction who contributed well-crafted and functional custom millwork. Ultimately, the design feels sophisticated yet personal; tailored directly to her clients needs.
BEDROOM – TEXTURE & DESIGN MEETS CLASSIC STYLE
Mowery Marsh Architects designed the elegant, vertical headboard wall to play off the tall windows, while nubby fabrics texturize and bring in softness.
BEDROOM NOOK – A COZY SANCTUARY
A true unwinding space; Elaine takes advantage of the large windows by using a mirror to bounce natural light into the space.
PARLOR – SIMPLE YET DRAMATIC
This room offers a fun way to create a space that feels distinctive from the rest of the house. The dramatic deep shades let the piano and fireplace do heavy lifting, while clean lines from the mid century modern furniture additions make the room current.
FAMILY ROOM – A LIGHT-FILLED GARDEN VIEW
Elaine knew the kids would play and watch television in the family room so she designed it with function in mind. She highlights the garden view bringing the outdoors in and adds warmth with braided rugs and quilted wall hangings.
DINING ROOM – A TABLE TO GATHER ON BIG & SMALL DAYS
The wood brings warmth into the dramatic juxtaposition of light walls and fireplace, a space tailored to everyday living but with enough room to accomodate extended family.
